My building of the day : The shard

The shard , Architect : Renzo piano

What i read today Day 2

Verry Brief History of Frank lloyd wright

The net chapter in my bookw as based on frank lloyd wright, an american architecht who built over 100 strucures in his lifetime , throughout his carear he revoloutionised styles and created new ones. His architecture was highly influenced by nature , many of his buildings stuck to the land hugging it, inside his interiors were open and airy.

My favourite building by him is the Guggenheim the curved structure with the airy winding inside.

Home Insurance Building

Recently i have been looking into one of my favourite architectural styles the sky scrapers specifically early ones, For this piece i used ink on a double A1 piece of Fabriano the scale was to give it a  large impact to relate to the actual scale of the buildings. The idea came from the exhibition theme of transformation. my idea was to research into the advances in engineering and architecture that resulted in the construction of these monumental towers, to represent this idea i decided to use the home insurance building designed by William Le Baron Jenney, at the time scrapers were being built using load bearing walls due to the size of these buildings , the walls on the ground and lower levels were built extremely thick to cope with the weight of the structure , this caused a problem as these walls would take a lot of the space up,the conclusion was the use of a steel frame , the home insurance building was the first steel frame tower in chicago and so shows a turning point in architectural construction, and so to me was a perfect image to use for the piece.

What i read to day :) DAY 1 !!

To help myself prepere myself for uni im trying to get some pre course education so am starting a daily "What i read to day " (hah i know i am so unique with my tittle ) , I am currently near the end of Architecture for dummies and today read about the introduction of skyscrapers in chicago , one of the towers that stood out as the "reliance building"by John RootCharles B. Atwood, the building is in the style of the chicago architecture school. I think the reason this stood out to me was due to the windows im a HUGE fan of steel fram glass scrapers and this was one of the first to use glass as one of the main design points also i love the iregular shape caused by the bay "chicago"windows.

My first post YAAAAAAYYY !!! ;D

First ever doodle , this one is from a photo i took when visiting the roman forum looking at the colosseum, ignore the scribble i cant spell to save my life.
